A display of our ability to bring effort and pressure at home, as we secured a hard fought 12-point victory over Beaumaris! Our attacking prowess was evident throughout, with Nicholas Graveskicking 2 crucial goals in the first term and Ben Joy adding another 2 majors in the third quarter. The team’s dominant third-quarter surge, which saw us pile on 5 goals, proved to be the decisive factor in controlling the scoreboard. We truly showed our fighting spirit to claim the 11.4 (70 points) to 7.16 (58 points) win.

We exploded out of the blocks in the first quarter, demonstrating strong intent by kicking 4 goals and establishing an 11-point lead at quarter-time. Nicholas Graves spearheaded the early attack with 2 timely majors, supported by Sam Veitch who contributed 1 goal, 4 marks, and 2 clearances. Beaumaris rallied impressively in the second quarter, kicking 2 goals to our single major, as momentum briefly swung their way.

Despite their determined fightback, we still held a slender but vital 3 point advantage at half time. The third quarter was where we showed our ability to pressure opponents around stoppages and win the ball back. We dominated the quarter surging to a commanding 29-point lead by three quarter time. We piled on 5 unanswered goals, with Ben Joy bagging 2 crucial ones and Hamish Wild adding another with 4 strong marks.

Although Beaumaris launched a spirited challenge in the final term, kicking 3 goals, Liam Thomas provided a steadying hand with 1 important goal and 4 marks. The side demonstrated incredible composure, withstanding the late surge to hold firm and seal a victory.

The final scoreboard reflected a fantastic victory, with Old Camberwell Grammarians finishing with 70 points to Beaumaris's 58 points. Despite Beaumaris recording more overall disposals, we were superior where it mattered most, driving the ball inside 50 on 51 occasions to their 44, and laying 78 tackles. Individual brilliance shone through, particularly from Nicholas Graves and Ben Joy, both contributing 2 goals each, while Sam Veitch's consistent efforts with a goal, 4 marks, and 6 tackles were vital.

This hard fought triumph reinforces our resilience, teamwork and effort across the four quarters. We must carry this mindset into next week’s challenge against Williamstown at home.

The Under 19s have wasted no time embracing life in Division 2, storming to an emphatic 88-point win over Kew in a performance built on structure, discipline, and flair.
 
Charlie King was dominant in the ruck, giving the midfield great supply all afternoon. With that platform, the mids in Harry Taylor, Oscar Stambanis and James Webb sliced through Kew with clean hands, smart running patterns, and relentless pressure. The team transitioned from back half to forward 50 with purpose, width and patience, shifting angles and opening the corridor whenever the moment was right. Even the defenders joined the party by pushing up with intent and hitting the scoreboard themselves.
 
From there, the Wellers never looked back. The forward line functioned beautifully as a unit with repeat efforts all day. Ryder Smith, Will Joy and Oli Lowe enjoyed the constant supply with 3 goals each. But the standout was Harry Taylor, who delivered a genuine best on ground performance with 40+ disposals and 4 goals. He was everywhere - inside, outside, forward, linking chains, finishing plays, and setting the standard for work rate.
 
The backline didn’t see much of it but defensively, their structure held firm. When turnovers came, the transition was instant and damaging.  Fin Williams and Ben Horskins delivered their most complete performances of the season.
 
If the team remains focused and disciplined, then they look every bit a side ready to play deep into September.
