Seniors vs Old Ivanhoe
A classic battle was expected when Old Ivanhoe ventured to Gordon Barnard for a huge 3rd vs 4th clash. Year 11 schoolboy Sam Grlj came into the side along with Jack Spalding after a long spell, adding fresh energy to the team. Old Ivanhoe’s intentions were clear from the start with a heavy tag on Jimmy Allen. The first half showcased a quick brand of football, with both sides testing each other relentlessly. At the half-time break, there was only a goal difference, with neither side gaining the upper edge.
The second half saw Old Ivanhoe turn up the heat and capitalize on some skill errors. They controlled the latter half of the game and ran away comfortable winners. Our boys kept trying all day and never gave up, but it was clear Ivanhoe had come to play and were the better side on the day.
Standout players down back included Kellan Percy, Ben Hart, and Lachie O'Neil, who had a standout game across halfback with some precision kicking. Liam Thomas was again busy forward with four majors, while Harry McColl played a super game with two goals. Tom Oliver enjoyed a run in the middle, taking on Ivanhoe's most dangerous player, and youngsters Pat Blewand Lachlan Purcell played great games on their respective wings.
Next week, we travel to Williamstown for a must-win clash.
