Round 18 Match Report

The home and away season finished on Saturday, and for many teams, a welcome rest awaits.  For others, a new season begins.
 
Old Camberwell is fortunate to have two teams that have progressed to finals.  Our Senior men’s team will take on Old Ivanhoe at 2.30pm on Saturday, at Waverley Oval (homeground of De La Salle), located at 425 Waverley Road, East Malvern.  The Under 19’s play Glen Eira/Old Mackinnon at 10.30am Saturday at Ferndale Park, Glen Iris.  Both teams will approach these games with confidence, with each having beaten their respective opponents in the last few weeks.
 
The Under 19’s will be looking to return to the winners list after losing to a St Kevins side that had been boosted by the addition of eight Under 19 Premier players last Saturday.  Our best is good enough, so we look forward to a big game this week.
 
The Men’s seniors took on fellow finalists Parkdale at GBO.  Despite the outcome of the match having no bearing on ladder positions, it was a tough, uncompromising encounter, which served as a great tune-up for this weekend.  The boys were able to get over the line by 3 points after trailing by that margin at ¾ time.  Once again our resilience and will-to-win shone through.
 
The Reserves finished the season with a creditable victory over the fourth placed team.  While finishing equal on points with Parkdale, an inferior percentage meant we did not qualify for finals.  The result in this last game just showed what could have been had more players been available for the majority of the season.
 
And now the real fun begins.  We saw last year what a difference a vocal crowd can make during finals, so it would be great to see as many supporters as possible down at our games on Saturday.  You can make a difference.
