It is now mid-October – three and a half weeks since the disappointment of losing a C grade Grand Final. I have been waiting for the announcement of our Best and Fairest Award winners so that they could be included in this update, but in truth we have needed a bit of time to pass to reflect on the season that was. Grand final day was sunny, and relatively unaffected by wind. We approached the game with confidence, but found out quickly that Old Ivanhoe did as well. The standard was high – fast, flowing football. The pace of the Old Ivanhoe team was causing concern. They quickly jumped out to a 16-point lead at quarter time, and extended it to 29 points at half time. An even third quarter gave us hope going into the last quarter, but we could not capitalise on a couple of early chances, eventually going down by 42 points. While disappointing to lose, we can be incredibly proud of the team’s effort. To make a grand final as a newly promoted team is no mean feat. Thank you to players, coaches, volunteers and committee members for your commitment and contribution, and a huge thank you to our loyal supporters who helped fuel the fire throughout the year. Next year will bring a new challenge. B grade is serious football, and we will need to redouble our efforts to be competitive. I will keep you informed of new initiatives we will look to undertake and how you can be a part of it. Finally, I would like to acknowledge the Best and Fairest Award winners and runners up for each team. They are:
