Round 4 Review

Tuesday 04 May 2021

If coming back to football in 2021 wasn’t exciting enough, Saturday’s incredible sunshine added another level of brilliance to the return of Old Camberwell football this year. You could smell the freshly cut grass (thank you Council) and sense the joy everyone’s feeling. It felt great to be alive and made all of us old timers think “surely we could pull on the boots just one more time!”
Regrettably for our Director of Football and all round legendary clubman Andrew Romanin, he went with that thought, pulled on the Pumas for a game with the Thirds and promptly hyper extended his knee, departing the game at around the 55 second mark. Thankfully, there was no serious damage and he’s even contemplating a subsequent return! Footy fever is alive and kicking at GBO!
It was another Saturday of challenges for all our six teams and while we didn’t claim victories across the board, you’ll read that we showed true grit and worked hard for victory in every game. We’ll only ever ask this of our players and know that ultimately, that builds a culture that will thrive well into the future. I wanted to say a massive thanks to all those who’ve pulled on the Two Blues jumper so far this season. You are making the club proud and we’re lucky to have each and every one of you with us.
On the social front, we are very close to announcing the date and venue for this year’s Gala Ball. Full details will follow but given it is our Diamond Jubilee year, it is going to be a special night where we will celebrate our history on and off the field and continue to build our community.
A note of thanks this week to Janet Hose, Ben Hart’s Mum and long time supporter of Old Camberwell. Janet was the first volunteer to register on our new online registry. She pointed out a few areas we can improve, and we will update the register this week to make it clearer and easier to sign up. Check it out next week and again, I’d encourage and invite all and any volunteers to sign up or contact myself or Katherine if you are interested. We will be fully operational after this weekend on the Canteen Roster.

As some of you may have seen, our new website has a dedicated History page found under The Club. We are looking to populate this with lots of photos from across the decades and we need your help. If you have old photos we’d love to see them. Taking a photo on your mobile and sending them via email to our Webmaster Craig -

Don’t forget, check out the new website and if you know someone who hasn’t signed up for this newsletter, let them know. Otherwise, follow us on Instagram or Facebook

Aside from the mighty Thirds, our teams are away this week. Have a look through the fixtures and drop into a game if you can or drop into GBO at noon. The players would love to see you.

Come on the Wells.
