Round 10 – BACK TO THE FUTURE!
I’m not quite sure that’s exactly the right analogy but given the upside down nature of things these days, it’s as close as I could come to explaining the strangeness of writing Round 10 after last playing in Round 7. Possibly ‘Welcome to the Twilight Zone’ would have been better! Who cares – we are back playing footy and while we can, let’s celebrate it for all the joy it brings us.
As I said on Friday’s brief update, our players and coaches trained the house down last week and the goal was simple – have fun, play some great footy and make the club proud. Pleasingly, every team came to the party and while it was very odd not having supporters at GBO for our only Super 6 Saturday, the performances throughout the afternoon were electric.
And there was plenty to play for – our Unders were playing to consolidate a top 4 position, Thirds to remain on top, both Women’s Teams to respond after heavy losses at Old Geelong earlier in the season, Men’s Reserves to right a wrong after a bad loss to St Mary’s previously and the Men’s Seniors to bounce back after their first loss last game out. And respond EVERY team did. This week’s Match Reports are well worth the read.
As you know, I wrote briefly on Friday about our 2021 Membership drive and I will be contacting and hopefully speaking with all our 2021 members this week. All the details are below as always but I wanted to say a special thank you to Andrew Hudson, David Crothers, Ross Boyce, Anthony Allen, Peter Kerkvliet, Danny De Sanctis, Tim Wilson, Bruce McIntosh, Peter Woodbridge and Paul O’Shannassy for signing up and supporting Old Camberwell this season. There is no doubt the past few weeks, particularly missing our supporters at the Super 6 Saturday, has hurt us financially so the support from our community is massively welcome and appreciated. It would be incredible if we could have a few more people join as OCGAFC members over the coming winter weeks.
The early signs are promising that we’ll get to welcome supporters back to GBO this week. Our amazing women are away but all four Men’s teams will be playing at The Barnyard and we’re planning a big BBQ to welcome people back. I will update on Friday when we know more for certain.
Round 11 – here we come!!!!
