Round 15 Review

Round 15 – AND THEN THERE WERE FOUR!

With our Women’s seasons cut short and spectator restrictions still in place, it certainly felt a little quiet at GBO on Saturday but with three teams at home, the sounds and sight of footy brought a smile to everyone’s faces. I’ve said it before but a massive hats off to our players, coaches and volunteers who snapped back into action without missing a beat.

As you’ll know, we were going to be hosting the Wellsmen/OCGAFC Life Members lunch and I wanted to update you here with our current thinking. With Covid restrictions still in place for this Saturday, we’re unable to welcome spectators back yet. We’ll monitor how things progress but at this stage we plan on holding a lunch on the last Saturday of the Men’s home and away season – Saturday August 21st. Given the year we’ve had it will be a ‘come one come all’ event where we’ll celebrate our Life Memers, the 2001 Premiership triple and our 2021 Members & Volunteers – it will be MASSIVE. PENCIL THE DATE IN – DETAILS TO FOLLOW when we’re able. It would be amazing to pack out GBO for the last home and away game of the 2021!

Just as amazing is the form of our Men’s teams and I am over the moon to let you know we are hosting a home final at The Barnyard for our mighty Men’s Thirds who finished as minor Premiers after a solid win on Saturday. Led magnificently by coach Richie McDonald and manager Jim Smith, we are delighted for them and wish them luck against a very good Ajax team.  Be the 3s!!!

Our Under 19s played out a nail biter against traditional foes Old Trinity, our Reserves ran riot against Prahran Assumption and our Seniors showed real grit and class to turn the tables on Prahran Assumption’s Seniors in one of the best games of the season. A highlight for me was watching big Addo clunck a few pack marks against quality opposition.

As the brilliant Jimmy Allen said to me before the game on Saturday, ‘this could easily be the last game we play this season, so we’d better make the most of it!’

If you’ve thought about becoming an OCGAFC member, have some old photos for the website or want to join one of our social media channels, now’s the time to jump onboard and help bring The Wellers home for 2021.

Take care and Go Wells

Adam
