Round 2 Review

Monday 19 April 2021

I know I said it last week but how good is it to have Old Camberwell footy back again! Last week was a jammed packed affair for the Wellers. As I mentioned last week, Friday 16th saw the mighty Wellsmen, our Coterie Club established by Alex Dance and Peter Lenton nearly 15 years ago, hold their annual Golf Day at Kew Golf Club. It was the biggest turn out for many years with 21 4-balls playing a highly competitive Ambrose day and wonderful to see groups from our earliest years through to our current playing group there.  It really was a superb day and thank you again to all the Wellsmen Committee for their hard work and passion for OCGAFC.

As Stef Anjou writes in his match report, sadly one of our players, Scarlett King, suffered a serious leg injury during her game on Saturday. It was her first game for Old Camberwell. The care and support that has flowed over the weekend to Scarlett and her family does not surprise me but does remind me once again why I love this club and its people. We will stay close to Scarlett and be with her through her recovery.

Congratulations to our Men’s Thirds and Women’s Seniors who notched up their first wins for 2021 playing some scintillating footy and a huge thank you to all our volunteers on Saturday. Speaking of volunteering, while the response for more volunteers hasn’t ‘lit up the phones’ yet, I’ve been humbled by several people who have offered to help out when and where they can for the Club. Hopefully this is a start to spreading the load. I hope people already know that we have a small army of outstanding people who make our club happen. Several, like Warren and Sue from last week, have been supporting us for years and we cannot thank you enough.

I have created a link below for those interested in registering their interest to volunteer across a wide variety of areas. This list is by no means exhaustive and if you have a particularly area of interest that you think might work for you and for OCGAFC, please feel free to contact us. It’s very easy to register on the site, just follow the link below and we’ll be in contact shortly.
